WHAT DOES THE COURSE COST*?
*Dates and prices subject to change without notice. GST is included.
If you take both courses and purchase both handbooks, the total cost is $240. Here is the breakdown:
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (rifles and shotguns) costs $125. The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (handguns) costs an additional $85. Please note that you must take the CFSC before you are eligible for the CRFSC.
You should also purchase the relevant handbook when you sign up for the course. The following handbooks are available to students for $15 each, tax included:
- Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) Student Handbook
- Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) Student Handbook
Please make sure you have READ both handbooks before your first day in class.
Call Murray at 604.889.3822 between 8AM and 7PM Pacific Time to register and arrange to pick up your course materials.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING AT THE COURSE?
During the course you will be demonstrating safe handling of disabled firearms and inert ammunition. The course does not have a live fire component.
Once you have successfully completed the course, you will have met my criteria for further training, if you are interested.
WHAT KIND OF EXAMINATION DO I HAVE TO TAKE?
There are two examinations included in the cost for each course, one written and one practical. These are taken at the end of the course. You will need to achieve a minimum mark of 80% on the written examination of 50 True/False or multiple choice questions. You will also need to achieve a minimum mark of 80% on the practical examination. Over 99.8% of applicants taking the course are successful in achieving this standard.
You will receive your results immediately upon completion of the exam.
CAN I CHALLENGE THE COURSE?
Yes, you can challenge the course. But if you do not succeed the first time, then you must take the course. I will credit 50% of your challenge fee towards the course fee.
Generally, the non-restricted and restricted courses cover the basics of all firearm actions and a national standard of safety. Past experiences show an extremely high failure rate under these circumstances.
The Canadian Firearms Safety Course is different from what may have been learned in police, military and shooting sports organizations, which may account for the low success rate of those who challenge the course.
I hear challenges after regular classes are complete. Cost is $15 each for written and practical. Call 604.889.3822 to arrange a challenge appointment.
WHO IS THE INSTRUCTOR AND WHAT ARE HIS QUALIFICATIONS?
Murray Gardner is a certified professional with extensive knowledge of firearms and instructing. Please review his credentials.
